How does PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Control Birdhouse work?
Whenever your dog (or your neighbor’s dog) barks, he will hear a safe but annoying ultrasonic sound that’s inaudible to humans. As soon as he stops barking, the ultrasonic sound stops. The unit can only detect your dog’s bark when he is in front of it, so picking the best placement for your unit is key! This weatherproof unit covers a 1/4-acre area, but if you need more coverage, simply purchase additional units for your entire backyard area. The battery-operated device uses one 9-volt battery, lasting up to 2 months, depending on how often your dog barks.
Caution:
Humans cannot hear the ultrasonic sound, however precautions should be taken when preparing the Outdoor Bark Control for use. Keep at arms length away from the human ear to avoid hearing damage if a dog begins barking while you are setting up, mounting or hanging the Outdoor Bark Control. Avoid standing very close to the Outdoor Bark Control when it is on. Not for use by children. This device is intended for use only with dogs. Never attempt to use it for any purpose not described in this manual. For outdoor use only.
PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Control Birdhouse Directions:
- Adjustable range up to 50 feet. Add extra units for larger yards.
- Requires one 9-volt alkaline battery (not included).
- Install Battery - Remove the battery door on the back of the birdhouse. Connect a new 9-volt alkaline battery to the battery terminal and insert into the compartment. Replace the battery door.
- Test the Unit - Enable test mode by turning the knob to T. Hold the birdhouse at arms length, so that the front is visible. Make a loud noise and watch for the light to flash red and listen for a beep to confirm the sound was detected.
- Placement - Place the birdhouse in the desired location. It can be hung, mounted, or placed on a flat surface.To avoid signal interference, ensure the birdhouse faces the barking area, is no more than 5 feet above the ground, and is not near any large obstacles.
- Determine Mode - Set the birdhouse to the correct mode to ensure your dog hears the ultrasonic tone. When determining the mode, look for recognition signs from your dog, such as looking around or ear movement. Start with the knob set to 1. Observe your dog to see if he responds to the ultrasonic tone when barking. Increase to the next modes if he does not respond. If your dog does not respond to mode 3, test to confirm the birdhouse is working. If it is working, try setting the birdhouse closer to the ground.
If the unit powers on, and your dog is not responding, ultrasonic bark stimulation may not be the appropriate solution for your dog. PetSafe offers alternative bark solutions to this ultrasonic unit.
